Professional Cricket League Regional 4-Day LogoKINGSTOWN, St Vincent, December 8, 2014 – Title holders Barbados Pride beat Windward Islands Volcanoes by 11 runs in a dramatic post-tea session on the fourth and final day of their WICB Professional Cricket League fourth round first-class match at Arnos Vale on Monday.

Chasing 207 to win in 78 overs, the Windward Islands were bowled out for 195 in 70 overs at 4:45 p.m.

In a fluctuating last session, the Windwards recovered from 134 for seven through an eighth-wicket partnership of 57 between Andre Fletcher, who topscored with an unbeaten 65 and Alston Bobb (26) before off-spinner Roston Chase took two wickets in three balls to leave the score 191 for nine.

Then with 12 runs needed to win, medium-pacer Dwayne Smith had Kenroy Peters leg before wicket for nought to spark celebrations for the Pride.

Fletcher, who went to the crease at No. 4, batted for 189 minutes, faced 162 balls and struck eight fours.

Smith was the leading wicket-taker with three for 30 off 12 overs, while off-spinner Ashley Nurse picked up two for 34, captain and seamer Carlos Brathwaite, two for 36 and Chase, two for 37.

It was the second straight match in which Smith grabbed the very last wicket to give Barbados a narrow win following their two-run success over Guyana Jaguars at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence a week ago when the victory target was only 69.

In the Windwards’ chase, Johnson Charles was caught at gully by Jonathan Carter off Brathwaite for 25 (58-1).

Sunil Ambris was caught at second slip by Nurse off Brathwaite for eight (78-2).

Keddy Lesporis was run out for 45 (95-3).

Romel Currency was caught at the wicket by Shane Dowrich off Smith for four (100-4).

Liam Sebastien was caught at second slip by Carter off Smith for one (111-5).

Tyrone Theophile was bowled by Nurse for seven (132-6).

Shane Shillingford was stumped by Dowrich off Nurse for nought (134-7).

Bobb was caught at extra-cover by substitute Kenroy Williams off Chase for 26 (191-8).

Mervin Matthew was caught and bowled by Chase for nought (191-9).

And Peters was leg before wicket by Smith for nought (195 all out).

Barbados, with a first innings lead of 78 and starting the day on 93 for five, were bowled out for 128 in 49.2 overs in their second innings after the first 46 minutes’ play. Shai Hope topscored in the Barbados second innings with 34.

Off-spinner Shillingford was the leading wicket-taker with five for 46 off 19 overs.

Today, Brathwaite was bowled by Shillingford for 17 from his overnight 15 (98-6).

Nurse was caught at short midwicket by Currency off pacer Matthew for 13 after resuming on five (116-7).

Smith was caught at long-on by Charles off Shillingford for 21 (128-8).

And Jomel Warrican was bowled by fast bowler Peters for three (128-9; innings closed).

Miguel Cummins was not out on nought.

Omar Phillips was absent after being injured at the crease in the first innings.

Last evening, Kyle Corbin was bowled by Peters for nought (1-1).

Carter was leg before wicket by Matthew for four (18-2).

Chase was caught by Fletcher off Shillingford for 10 (48-3).

Shai Hope was caught at short cover by Matthew off Shillingford (57-4).

And Dowrich was leg before wicket by Shillingford for 20 (81-5).
