ST GEORGE’S, December 5, 2016 – A five-member boxing team is representing Grenada at the Caribbean Boxing Championships in Barbados, starting on Tuesday.
The team of boxers and officials include three from Carriacou with former Grenada, OECS and Caribbean champion Sebastian Stiell as the head coach and manager. Lyle Bullen is the Referee/Judge and Rufus Vesprey who will be competing in the light welterweight category.
Grenada is fielding boxers in the novice, youth and junior categories of the second edition of the revamped Caribbean Development Boxing Championships at the Barbados Beach Club.
Joshua Redhead will punch in the middleweight division of the novice category while Nelon Cyrus (lightweight), Vesprey (light welterweight) and Timon Gilbert (light heavyweight) are all competing in the youth category.
Brandon Taylor is a welterweight fighter in the junior category.
Jewel Lewis, another former Grenada, OECS and Caribbean champion is the assistant to Stiell for the championships which run until Saturday.
Other territories participating are Belize, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Jamaica, St Lucia, St Maarten, the US Virgin Islands, Trinidad and Tobago and host Barbados.
International Boxing Association president Dr C. K. Wu and the acting executive director, William Louis Marie, will be present for the finals and will have a meeting with regional representatives on Sunday, December 11.
