KAMLOOPS, BC, August 8, 2014 (GrenadaSports) – Bralon Taplin qualified for Saturday’s final of the Men’s 400 metres of the NACAC Under-23 Championships being held in Kamloops, BC, Canada.

Taplin clocked the fastest qualifying time of 45.60 seconds in winning heat 2 of the first round. But he is expected to be challenged by the American pair of Brycen Spratling and Vernon Norwood, two finalists in the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon last June.

Taplin was a 400m semi-finalist at the recent Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, an event won by Grenadian Kirani James in a games record time of 44.24.

In field events, Kayode Simmons and Lindon Victor fouled in the long jump and discus throw respectively. Kellon Alexis finished in fifth position with 51.09 metres. Rodney Brown of the United States won the discus with a record throw of 63.34 metres.

Victor competes in the Javelin throw on Saturday while Simmons and Alexis go into the triple jump and hammer throw respectively on Sunday.
