ST GEORGE’S, November 6, 2016 – National player Cyprian Forsyth was denied a century but steered NEWIM Upsetters to an opening victory in the Grenada Cricket Association (GCA) Twenty20 Tournament at Progress Park, St Andrew on Sunday.
Forsyth struck five sixes and seven fours to score 85 off 53 deliveries as Upsetters beat Prisons by 84 runs in the second of two matches.
Batting first, Upsetters made 172 for seven off 20 overs with Forsyth providing the bulk of the runs with assistance from Julio Carmichael with 37 and an unbeaten 25 from Junior Cyrus.
Abdalla Abel took two for27, bowling for Prisons.
But Upsetters’ bowlers then remanded the prison guards for 88 all out in 14.4 overs. Bronson Johnson took three for 19 and two wickets apiece for Adel Beggs, Nicholas Redhead and Anthony Antoine.
Earlier, there were half centuries from national players Kyron Andrew and Nicoksi St Hillaire in a 27-run win for Munich Invaders over Pressure Pumpers.
Pressure Pumpers won the toss and decided to field and Invaders totalled 193 for six off 20 overs. Andrew and St Hillaire featured in a 79-run second-wicket partnership before Andrew was bowled by Jason Murray for 56. His knock came off 32 balls and included six fours.
St Hillaire then added 27 with his brother Aaron St Hillaire for the third wicket before being stumped by wicketkeeper Angus Philbert off Murray for 53. Nicoksi struck seven fours and a six for his half century.
Terry Thomas (2-22) and Murray with two for 51 off four overs were the successful bowlers for Pressure Pumpers.
In reply, Pressure Pumpers reached 166 for seven in the 20 overs.
Terry Thomas made 46, Garvel Walker 35 and Dane Murray 24 in Pumpers’ response.
Darron Nedd took two for 25 and Shabba Noel (2-28), bowling for Munich Invaders.
The tournament continues this weekend with matches to be played at the National Stadium and Progress Park.
