Grenada vs Dominica (NORCECA)

ST GEORGE’S, June 23, 2013 – Dominica clobbered Grenada 3-0 (25-16, 25-7, 25-19) to win the bronze medal  of  Group N of the Second Round of the NORCECA Women’s 2014 World Championships at the Laborie Indoor Facility on Sunday.

The loss condemned the host to their fourth defeat, as they failed to win a set from any of their three opponents.

For the triumphant Dominica team, they had joint top scorers in Anna Maria Xavier and Marcia Gustave, who both registered twelve points, while for the Grenadians, Renisha Stafford scored ten points.

Dominica‘s coach, Albert Loblack thought his team developed as the tournament progressed.

“We need to get the team switched on from ball one, game one. We play our better matches almost to the end of the tournament, when we have already lost some games,” said Loblack.

In looking to the future of the sport in his island, Loblack believes that it’s time for the injection of young players in the national setup.

However, he confessed that such a move will take some time.

Reflecting on Grenada’s unsuccessful run in the tournament, head coach Adam Lafeuillee said he was impressed with his team in the last match against Dominica.

“I was impressed with the girls in tonight’s match. They showed improvements in the offence and defence,” said Lafeuillee.

He said that his team showed gradual improvement as the tournament wore on, and pointed to the need for more competitive practice matches, prior to tournaments of this nature.
