ST GEORGE’S, November 21, 2016 – Dwain Gill has been re-elected as President of the Grenada Cricket Association (GCA).
Gill was returned unopposed at the GCA’s Biennial General Meeting held on Saturday. Anderson Noel was also re-elected unopposed as First Vice-President with long-standing parish representative from St Mark, Johnson Richardson, being elected to the position of Second Vice President.
Delegates also elected two new members to the seven-member executive.
Paulette Hankey-Bhola and Kerry Frank have been elected to serve as assistant secretaries.
The rest of the executive, which will serve a two-year term, are Norman Gilbert, Secretary; and Rupert Holas, Treasurer who were both returned unopposed.
Gill said the priority is to continue on the achievements of the GCA over the past two years with the focus on more grassroots programmes despite reduced funding from the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB).
He hailed the achievements of the GCA for its ability to work as a team and promises more collaborations with the stakeholders of cricket.
“There is a lot going on in Grenada’s Cricket yet there is so much more to do in 2017 and beyond. I look forward to working with every one of our stakeholders to achieve our mutual aim of making Grenada’s Cricket strong,” he said in his report to the general meeting.
“We are happy that despite financial constraints the GCA ensured that our aspiring players were give
n the opportunity to participate in various age group and senior tournaments which ultimately led to selections on National and Windward Islands Teams and in some cases on West Indies Teams.
The GCA has achieved a relatively healthy financial position, thanks to the hard work of Members of the Board of Management, and staff who have helped to increase our income and control our running costs. We have been working hard together to achieve the common goal of continued viability and growth of the GCA,” said Gill.
“I would again like to acknowledge and thank the relentless work of our myriad of volunteers throughout Grenada Cricket. Though there is often debate on the best ways to improve our game – especially at present as we discuss the merits of various changes – the common ground that we shall all stand upon is our love for cricket and its future prosperity.”
The executive committee will be joined by seven parish representatives on the Board of Management of the GCA.
