CARIFTA Games 2016 - Hands of Partnershipby Michael Bascombe

ST GEORGE’S, February 26, 2016 – With one month remaining until the FLOW CARIFTA Games in Grenada, the organisers are confident of staging a successful event scheduled for March 26-28 at the National Athletics & Football Stadium.

More than 800 athletes and officials have been confirmed for the 45th edition of the Games which have also attracted media interest.

Local Organising Committee (LOC) Chair Veda Bruno-Victor said that all the committees are functioning and the public is anxiously awaiting the start of the games.

“The LOC is happy with the progress being made for the preparations of the FLOW CARIFTA Games and as we embark on the homestretch, the LOC is endeavouring to ensure that the athletes, officials and patrons will have an enjoyable experience in our beautiful country,” said Bruno-Victor.

“All our committees are functioning to the maximum and our people are anxiously awaiting the start of these games. We thank our sponsors who have come on board and the hundreds of volunteers working behind the scene for this event.”

President of the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletics Association (NACAC), Victor Lopez said this year will be a celebration of the 45th anniversary of the Games as well as Grenada’s return to hosting international track and field events.

“Not only we are celebrating the 45th anniversary of the CARIFTA Games but, after 15 years, the CARIFTA Games are returning to Grenada which is also celebrating the reconstruction of the National Stadium which was totally destroyed in 2004 by Hurricane Ivan,” said Lopez.

“Therefore, the NACAC Athletics Family is extremely happy, not only for the 45 straight years we have been developing the athletics skills of our youth and junior athletes, hundreds of them who became World and Olympic champions, finalists and qualifiers but, because, finally we are able again to host world class events in the beautiful Island of Spice, Grenada.”

FLOW, this week, was announced as the exclusive broadcast partner and sponsor of the CARIFTA Games with plans to broadcast the games live in High Definition (HD) for the first time across the region.

FLOW said that the CARIFTA Games will be shown in 10 FLOW markets across the Caribbean, adding to its “ever-growing line-up of exciting sport partnerships already signed over the past”.
