ST ANDREW’S, March 23, 2015 – The defending champions of the Inter-Secondary Schools’ Athletics Championships have taken the lead after day one of the 2015 edition at Progress Park in St Andrew on Monday.

The Grenada Boys’ Secondary School (GBSS) and the Anglican High School (AHS) commanded the points standing following 33 field events.

When competition resumes on Wednesday, GBSS (178) is ahead of perennial rival St Andrew’s Anglican Secondary School (SAASS) by 43 points. Bishop’s College (84.5); Hillsborough Secondary School (65.5) and St David’s Catholic Secondary School (59) complete the top five positions.

In the girls’ division, AHS (117.5) is battling a strong challenge from Hillsborough Secondary School (102.5). St Joseph’s Convent St Andrew (94); St Andrew’s Anglican Secondary School (93.5) and St David’s Catholic Secondary School (89.5) are among the main challengers.

A total of 10 games’ records were broken on Monday with Johann Jeremiah (GBSS) accounting for two. He set a new mark of 39.32 metres in the Sub Junior Boys’ Discus Throw and 15.26m in the Shot Put Throw.

Also setting new Intercol marks were Ria Benjamin (HSS) in the Sub Junior Girls’ Javelin Throw (31.30m)

Anderson Peters (SDCSS) in the Senior Boys’ Javelin Throw (67.29m); Candesha Scott (SDCSS) in the Senior Girls’ Javelin Throw (43.54m); Kitakufei Nelson (SAASS) in the Junior Boys’ Triple Jump (13.98m); Reanna Joseph (BC) in the Junior Girls’ Discus Throw (32.68m); Shontel Paul (SAASS) in the Junior Girls’ Javelin Throw (39.73m); Darren Modoo (SAASS) in the Junior Boys’ Long Jump (6.98m) and Nichioner George (SJCSA) in the Open Girls’ Triple Jump (11.42m).
