ST GEORGE’S, June 30, 2016 – The Grenada Olympic Committee (GOC) is providing support to the Grenada Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) and the Grenada Athletic Association (GAA) as competitors from both sporting disciplines participate in last chance competitions to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Corey Ollivierre and Oreoluwa Cherebin, who were awarded universality places for the Olympic Games, are among swimmers representing Grenada at the Caribbean Islands Swimming Championship in the Bahamas. They are supported by the GOC.
They are also hoping to improve on their personal marks during the CISC in Nassau.
The GOC is also providing assistance for the participation of track and field athletes at the 2nd OECS Track & Field Championships in Tortola, BVI this weekend.
The GOC’s assistance is extended to 11 of the 18 athletes’ participation in the championships. They include Kanika Beckles, Candesha Scott, Meleni Rodney, Payton Hazzard, Kurt Felix, Lindon Victor, Josh Boateng, Anderson Peters, Rondell Bartholomew, Junior Charles and Joel Redhead.
The other athletes participating in the OECS Championships are Amanda Crawford, Kenisha Pascal, Nichonier George, Emron Gibbs, Reon Radix, Tallan James and Nathan Hood.
Four athletes have already qualified for the Olympic Games including defending 400 metres champion Kirani James, Bralon Taplin and decathletes Kurt Felix and Lindon Victor.
