Grenada U23 Netball TeamKINGSTOWN, St Vincent, July 9, 2016 – Grenada begins defence of its title in the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Under-23 Netball Tournament here on Saturday.

The team, which includes three teenagers, will be captained by the experienced Shakera Fortune.

Fifteen year-old Carlene Alexander, 17 year-old Kerissa Thomas and Jomelar Billy, 19, are in the team which opens the tournament against St Kitts and Nevis at the Arnos Vale Netball Complex on Saturday afternoon. The host will play Dominica in the second match of the opening.

Five of the players on the team were members of the victorious national team which won the Challenge Title at Netball Europe in May. They are Fortune, Renisha Stafford, Tiffany Frederick, Keshanice Mitchell and Kerissa Thomas.

Fortune, Stafford, Frederick and Mitchell along with Billy also played in the 2015 OECS Tournament and are key in Grenada’s defence of the title.

Grenada remaining matches are against Dominica on Sunday afternoon; St Lucia on Monday morning and against St Vincent and the Grenadines on Wednesday.

The full team: Shakera Fortune (captain), Tiffany Frederick, Renisha Stafford, Keshanice Mitchell, Jeimella John, Jomelar Billy, Tarheraw McDonald, Kelsey Jeremiah, Kerissa Thomas, Carlene Alexander.

The head coach is Oberon Pitterson-Nattie and assistant coach is KathyAnn Gabriel. The other officials are Jennel Andrews (manager), Adeltrude Gabriel (physio) and Nadine Lett (umpire).
