BEIJING, China, August 28, 2015 – Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Kurt Felix made a fine start in his Decathlon campaign at the IAAF World Championships here on Friday.

Felix, who won the silver medal at the Pan American Games in Toronto last month, is hoping to maintain the podium momentum in this gruelling 10-event track and field competition.

The Grenadian clocked 11.02 seconds in the opening 100 metres and then stormed to a season best 7.66m in the Long Jump. The effort worth 975 points and good positioning among the top competitors for the Shot Put, the third and final event of the morning session.

Felix opened the Put with 13.81m and then 15.02m for the fourth biggest throw and 791 points.

He is now in sixth position with 2622 points with world record holder American Ashton Eaton leading the field with 2830 points and Pan American Games gold medallist Damian Warner of Canada just 83 points in the second position.

The field of 29 competitors will look to conclude the final session of day one with maximum points from the High Jump and 400m – the remaining events on the opening day.
