JACKSON, Mississippi, September 30, 2015 – Former Grenada tennis player Lois Alexis has been appointed the Head Coach of men’s and women’s tennis at Jackson State University (JSU).
The University has reported that Alexis will enter her first season following recent coaching stint as an assistant coach at Southern University.
Alexis is the only female head coach of both teams in the Southwestern Athletics Conference.
“I am hoping to bring to Jackson State the results and successes that was once afforded when I competed in collegiate tennis,” Alexis told GrenadaSports.
“My goal is to make sure that my student athletes are well equipped with the skills needed for them to reach their maximum potentials in this sport.”
The Grenadian coach is aware of the huge responsibility she has undertaken but is not daunted by the challenges.
“I am confident in my abilities and skill set as a coach. I know that this is a huge task but I have surrounded myself with individuals that are veterans in this area and who are willing to walk me through and mentor me through this journey. I am ready to take on the challenge ahead.”
Alexis lives by the motto that hard work is the key to success and believes that once one follows his or her dream and never gives up it can be attained. She said that her ultimate goal is to establish an Elite Tennis Academy in her native Grenada.
“Growing up in tennis I always said that I wanted to go of on a tennis scholarship in the US, I worked hard and I achieved it. While attending university I was able to achieve not one but two degrees a Bachelors degree in Business Management and a Masters degree in Business Administration. Then I said I wanted to become a collegiate coach which I have also achieved that.
I have one more goal to achieve and that is to have an elite tennis academy in Grenada and I know that I would achieve that as well. God has truly been blessing me and I am so thankful of all the doors he has opened for me.”
Alexis is the second Grenadian to be named a Head Coach this year, joining Joel Phillip who was appointed Track & Field coach at Lehman College in New York. Another Grenadian, Alleyne Francique, is an assistant Track & Field coach at Texas A&M University.
