ST GEORGE’S, November 28, 2016 – Defending champions Spice Isle International Auto Rentals Paradise FC and River Sallee Cooperative Credit Union Hard Rock will contest the final of the 8th WaggyT Knockout Football Tournament on Saturday.

Both teams secured convincing semi-final victories on Saturday and will meet for the top prize of $75,000.

Hard Rock, with a hat-trick from Kade Wellington, whipped last year’s beaten finalist Mt Cinnamon Hurricanes 5-2 in the first of the double-header at the Grenville Recreation Ground while Paradise defeated Sandals Queens Park Rangers 3-1.

Wellington gave Hard Rock the early lead in the third minute with Kimron Redhead, the tournament’s leading scorer in 2013, and Wellington extending the lead in the 17th and 41st minutes respectively before Samson Charles gave Hard Rock the clear advantage four minutes before the halftime.

Hurricanes threatened the deficit with Lemoy Augustine (51st) and Cassim Langaigne (77th) adding to the scoresheet.

But Wellington’s 82nd minute strike sealed Hurricanes’ fate and Hard Rock’s second trip to the final at the National Stadium.

Meanwhile, Paradise FC maintained its unbeaten record in local football this season with Travis Rennie scoring in the 12th minute and Stephan Whiteman two minutes later.

Irvin Smith converted a penalty in the 52nd minute to give Queens Park Rangers some hope in the final 30 minutes of the game. But the hopes were dashed when Jake Rennie stepped up in the 75th minute to confirm Paradise’s victory march.

Prior to Saturday’s final, which begins at 9:00 p.m., Queens Park Rangers and Hurricanes will contest the third-place playoff from 7:00 p.m.

The winner takes home $75,000 with $20,000 for the losing finalist and $6,000 for the third-place finisher.

Individual prizes will also be presented to the player with the most goals, best goalkeeper, best defensive player and the most valuable player of the tournament.
