NASSAU, Bahamas, April 22, 2016 – President of the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF), Sebastian Coe has joined the sporting community in expressing condolences on the recent passing of Barbadian sports journalist Petra Gooding.

Petra died at a local hospital on Tuesday after being admitted the previous week after complaining of not feeling well soon after returning from Grenada where she had covered the CARIFTA Athletics Championships for the Nation and Starcom Network, the Barbados Nation News reported.

In a letter to the Caribbean Sports Journalists Association (CASJA), President Coe expressed sadness on learning of the passing of Petra.

“On behalf of the World Athletics Family allow me to express my heartfelt condolences to her family and to her friends in CASJA,” said President Coe, who also attended the championships in Grenada last month.

“Ms Petra Gooding will be remembered for her great contribution in Athletics in the Caribbean. Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time,” her said.

Petra was selected as the Reporter of The Month at the Barbados Nation for her outstanding coverage of the 2016 schools’ track and field season and the CARIFTA Championships, an award which would have been presented to her on Thursday.
