ST GEORGE’S, October 23, 2012 – Eight triathletes will represent Grenada at the City Bikes Ironman 70.3 Miami 2012 on Sunday.
They will join more than 2,000 athletes who will attempt the 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike and a half marathon covering 13.1 miles in downtown Miami and also to qualify for the World Championships in Las Vegas, USA next year.
“This will be the toughest event I have done. It is about four times the distance I usually do but we [the team] have been doing the work and know what to expect,” said Troy Felix, a member of the Tri de Spice team.
“We have trained our weaknesses and we’ll race to our strengths. We intend to make Grenada proud.”
Felix is a multiple time sprint triathlon national champion, often having the fastest bike and run split at his events.
Two members of the team will also compete in a full Ironman, double the distance, in Cozumel, Mexico on November 25.
The rest of the team will compete in the inaugural Tag Team Triathlon on November 3 in Grand Anse as their final race before taking a well-deserved break.
