TORONTO, July 10, 2015 – It was a good start for Grenada at the Pan American Games in Toronto on Friday with Yannik James advancing in the Men’s Singles on the opening day of competiton at the Canadian Tennis Centre.

James defeated Philip Major of the Bahamas 2-1 in the best of three sets (6-4, 4-6, 6-3) to book a second round match-up with the number 12 seed Eduardo Struvay of Colombia who received a first-round bye.

Their match is scheduled for Saturday on Court three, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

The Games open on Friday evening but only the James and swimmers Corey Ollivierre and Oreoluwa Cherebin will be on parade. The four track and field athletes selected will join the team next week for their competition which starts on July 22.

The swimming competition opens on July 14 but the Grenadians begin their quest the following day.
